1969 Corvette, convertible. The rear hatch goes all the way down to where it’s flush, and the latch catches and engages but doesn’t quite get to the point of locking on one side. If I manually flip the switch while the hatch is up, it locks fine. Not sure what to adjust.

Ok, finally got around to doing some more troubleshooting on this.
- The latch would not catch even when the lid was pushed past level
- I removed the weather stripping and it made no difference
- I adjusted the horizontal position of the latch and observed the difference it made, but the only thing I managed to do was move it too close and get it stuck
- I then tried shimming between the latch and the lid
...and now it catches great.
I’m sure these shims are the correct fix, so what did they prove is “off”?
