SnoreVette Makeover
I'm getting ready to make some big changes to my C3 "SnoreVette"
and I just started a video series on YouTube to track them. Check out my plan/video and let me know what you think! This forum has been very useful to me over the years and I value your thoughts/comments on where I should take the build- THANK YOU!-TacoJoe
That zz4 short block is a good starting point. I'm wondering how high up the bore the pistons come in that block? Is it like stock .025" from the deck or do they zero deck that block. Good to know for head gasket thickness.
Given the specs I could find on line the pistons must be 12cc's. (10.1 CR with 58 cc heads, don't know what head gasket/squish space though) That will become important to know to give your desired CR for this engine.
Flat top pistons make for a good quench for detonation prevention to get the CR up nice and high on pump gas.
I used this calculator for CR and DCR cpmputations. It includes altitude, handy.

Heads is where the power is made as you probably know. I use and would recommend AFR heads.
My build still used the 2 bolt block with ARP bolts in this config it's good to 500 HP. I'm putting out around 440 HP. My 0 to 60 with Th350 auto and 3.55 rear gear, If I can get traction lol, is 5.3 seconds @ 4500 feet. At sea level I would expect a bit better, but don't know because only time I see sea level where I live is Below 0* F in the winter, and like I said traction on street tires is an issue.
I have a drop indicator and I'll measure how far they are in the hole and let you know - I suspect .025" but you never know. AFR makes GREAT heads - with all the aftermarket mfgs out there, its crazy how AFR seems to be the only one who's figured it out (its the same for Ford) - Do you run HEI or do you have an ignition box/etc on your setup?I have 3:70:1 gears and if I could go back in time, I would definitely change to 3:55s - its the sweet spot for drivers- 3.70 is a tad too low IMHO- you live and learn I guess
I roll 3.55s in my cobra with a T5 and its PERFECTAppreciate the feedback guys -thank you!

Reelav8r - I can tell you are versed with SBC builds- I have a drop indicator and I'll measure how far the pistons sit in the hole and let you know / I'm assuming its .025" but you never know these days (with quality control/etc
). Also AFR heads are GREAT - its funny how they seem to be the only aftermarket mfg who have figured out the SBC/ideal config - its the same for Ford- great R&D. Are you running HEI, of do you have a box/etc? I'm planning to run HEI again, but may consider a box if the benefit is there3.55s gears are definitely the sweet spot on the street as my 3.70s are a tad low - If I could back time I would make the change- heck, maybe I'll make that change if it makes sense with the trany
I have 3.55s in my cobra with a T5 and its perfectThank much guys- I'll keep you updated
Your 3.70 rear is why it does so well in the zero to 60 now. When I bought mine with a 3.08 rear it was zero to 60 in 10.6 seconds.

Once you mod the engine, it's gonna take some clutch work to not spin the tires.

I had 3.08s - just wish i would have picked 3.55s like you!I'm getting ready to pull the motor - something i've struggled with on my HEI is setting the vacuum advance - i though i had it perfect then one morning it was cold -and- i was driving next to a concrete barrier and i could HEAR the pistons rattling (I think a combo of piston slap/detonation) - i backed out the advance screw on the vacuum switch and all was well but i think i may have done some damage because i drove it that way for quite a while. Once the motors out, i'll pull the heads and we'll see. Anyone on the forum run a knock sensor on a gen1 SBC? Not even sure they make an aftermarket version but i can see how they could be useful with tuning
