Default C3 Sitting in Driveway

One of the people on my street has a 77 C3 that's been sitting in the same spot for years. I want to ask him about buying it.. they don't seemt to care about it. They park other cars in their yard because they won't bother to air up the tires and move it into their garage. I don't know these people and I'm sure they might have good reason for not doing anything with it, I don't mean to judge them for not doing anything. Anyways, if they do want to sell it to me, is it reasonable to offer 1000-1500 for it knowing I'd probably have to get it running and stuff?

Even at $1000 it won't take much to get upside-down on a 77 that has been sitting outside for several years. If you want the car offer and see want happens.

I agree. Frame could be Swiss cheese.
Just look out for any no trespassing/soliciting/dog bites/owner shoots signs

Don’t get your feelings hurt when they tell you it’s not for sale because they have plans to restore it some day (and it’ll sit there for 20 more years). Or, yes it’s for sale, for more money than what it cost New because corvettes are a highly prized sought after rare American sports car worth a ton of gold because they don’t rust like other cars. Bla bla
in short, the same brain that made the decision to leave it where it sits is likely the same brain that will be making the decision about whether it’s for sale. Don’t expect a rational reasoned response.

Good luck,
Ken

Are you wanting to get it to save the car?

Are you wanting a Corvette?

What is your budget?

If you have around 12Kish in a budget and you just want a 70’s Vette, you can likely find a real good one already running.

If you just want to rescue that car then I surely see your interest. What a waste of potential.

Trying to bring back a C3 that has been abandoned to the elements for years is NOT a task to be taken lightly.

Just GUESSING, but it will probably be a better parts car just because one can only imagine how bad everything has aged sitting through YEARS of seasons.

Knock on the door and ask. Costs you nothing. If they say yes, ask them if it's ok to go inspect. Check the under carriage, if the rust is more then surface, thank them and walk away. If it only surface rust, continue on. Make a list of stuff you'll need to purchase. Tire for sure. Use that list to get the price down. But as other have said you can dump a lot money into.
