I was talking Corvettes with a couple of friends a few days ago and we got on the subject of special paint trim tags. An interesting question came up. I was asked if, when these cars were delivered in primer, were the emblems already installed? This would be the nose emblem, rear panel STINGRAY letters and side Stingray script. It seemed like a pretty simple question but after all my years around Corvettes I did not have an answer.
It seems logic would dictate that the emblems would not be installed as these cars were headed right to the paint shop. So they would maybe be included with the PDI package?
Anyone here have a definitive answer? Perhaps someone here who bought one of the SPEC tagged '73's new?
Cheers, Greg
All the emblems were on the car when it was in primer, I worked at the Rail Yard in Framingham Mass, from 1973 - 1979 and remember seeing these cars come in light grey primer

I asked the same regarding weatherstripping and the federally required stickers relating to manufacturing date and DOT disclaimers.
They too were all in place when the cars shipped from St Louis-
FWIW not all of the SPEC cars were primer and not all of the tags said SPEC - some said SPECIAL some said PRIME I know of one which had 4001HA
I know of 2 special paint 71's (LT1 and a LS5) both are still original paint and were delivered black then the 72 Bloomington car which is original black paint and the 30 or so 73's which were black and have trim tags all over the place -
The 71 LS5 (SPECIAL in paint field on TT) and one of the 1973's (SPECIAL in paint field on the TT) are local to upstate South Carolina and the 73 Hory car currently for sale for $425k is in South Carolina as well.
