Default Question from a new member

I have a generic question, hopefully this would be the correct thread to us. Is there a way to find out what bolts should be used (size thread type etc) for installing any particular part on my 71? I purchased a project 71 454 coupe. Mostly disassembled with most fasteners missing. Whenever I go to install something I need to find bolts that fit. I was hoping there would be someplace to go to see what fasteners I need to install that particular part.
Thanks for any assistance. Bob

Yes! The Corvette Forum repro parts vendors can help you out and they often sell the particular fasteners needed. It goes without saying you need to purchase a factory AIM..assembly instruction manual. The vendors sell AIMs.. I'd also recommend joining the National Corvette Restoration Society (NCRS).. They have an almost overwhelming amount of data and information.

These can get pricey, but they list fastener sizes for most things.

for the most part they are coarse thread 1/4 to 1/2. the exception is the rotating assy in the engine. get a few from lowes that are too long. thread them in until they bottom out. count turns and measure the length. fastenal and other fastener places have various grades of bolts in 1/8 inch length increments. the lowes bolts will for the most part do the trick but there are many places that bolt wants to be 1-1/4 or 1-3/8. not 1-1/2. intake manifolds are an example. you can always pay 15 to 30 bucks for a set of 6 bolts that are specific for a specific assembly, but it can be done more sensibly without using bottom line generic fasteners.
