Default ram horn/ignition shielding

My question is, if i switch to 2.5 inch ram horn manifolds, will the stock sbc ignition shielding fit. I know headers are potentially more power but I prefer the stock look of ram horns.

I'll be watching this, I too wish to keep all my stock heat shields and ign covers. But am thinking the larger rams horns would breathe better.

is the rest of the exhaust back to the mufflers dual 2.5"? Otherwise why bother?

If you want to stay with the rams-horn manifolds use the ones that have the center down tube go straight down, not curved back. Also David Vizard explains in one of his books that you can match the manifold to the head port size EXCEPT for the bottom of edge of each manifold port. I don't remember exactly why, but it has something to do with back pulse - I think.

Currently I have the stock 2 inch ram horns and 2 inch exhaust. One of my manifolds is cracked and my thought is that the 2.5 inch manifolds would flow better and give slight more performance but still look stock. Main question is would stock shielding fit with 2.5 inch ram horns. Thanks

I would think so. The shields that protect the plugs only come in one size that I'm aware of.
But my point is that why go from a 2.5" manifold oulet to a 2" pipe and hope for "more performance".

I never said that I was going to use my 2 inch exhaust. My goal is to switch to a full 2.5 inch exhaust if the shielding fits a 2.5 inch manifold. Sorry I should have been clearer. Thank you for answering my question.

You can get 64-65 downpipes that are 2.5" all the way (no neckdown) and hook them up to 2.5" ramhorns and the rest of the 2.5" exhaust pipes. I did that on my 68. I *suspect* you could look at ignition shielding on 64s-65s and see how it was attached (I'm guessing he 64 & 65 had ignition shielding?).
My exhaust pipes came from Corvette Central. Installed 2.5" ramhorns, 64-65 2.5" downpipes (no neckdown on 64-65 pipes), 2.5" all the way back, and the mufflers, and muffler supports, from corvette central also. Bolted up beautifully and I'd had headers and an exhaust system fabricated an exhaust shop for 30+ years.

Anyway, follow this link for the 2.5" system if interested:
