Proud new owner of a 71BB convertible - yes I need to update my pics!!!. I have seen mention of protector strips that are clear and adhere by contact (without adhesive) to protect the paint on the back body hatch from the tops (I have both soft and hard tops). I have seen the products in searching on a few sites, but they are all out of stock/no longer in production. Does anyone have an alternative source or different product that could be repurposed for the same results? Thanks for the help in advance.

Bummer that they are out of production, because they do work.
You may have to buy some clear vinyl??? from a craft store or trim shop.
Maybe a shop that does wraps?
I ordered one just yesterday from a Canadian Corvette Parts supplier... google "68-75 DECK LID PROTECTOR" and there are some suppliers in the US out there that have them.
The one I ordered was the clear one for a convertible car, and it's "static cling" so no adhesive... but I have seen some for hardtops as well...

You remember colorforns? I think halloween and chrismas window stickers are similar. Peel and stick without sticking. If that ciuld be bought blank and clear.
AJ, firstly, I’d like to congratulate you on your new hobby car. When can we hear more about it and when might we be able to see some photos?
As for protecting the rear deck from top witness marks, I took a different route after having my car painted. I took the rear deck lid to a shop that applies clear 3M film to cars - the stuff that is usually applied across the front surfaces to protect against stone chips, etc. This guy wrapped my entire deck lid, extending the material to the bottom of all vertical surfaces. The film is virtually impossible to detect when the lid is closed. The big benefit in my mind is that the 100% coverage on the deck lid provides for protection against hard top AND soft top witness marks, since they have different patterns and sit in different areas on the deck lid. Certainly not a low cost solution (I think I paid a couple/few hundred bucks to have it done) but a 100% clean and easy solution to protecting your deck lid.

I agree, had this done to my 74 vert couple years ago and has worked great. It will make a line from the soft top but it goes away after being in the sun for awhile.

Thats an excellent suggestion. I have similar panels on the rear quarters of my C7 from the factory. I’ll have to search around town and see where I could do that.
pics and intro to follow - promise! She’s an acquisition from a fellow CF member, but I’m planning on getting her out of the garage a little more. She’s hasn’t seen more than 100mi/year for the past 25 years!
