Default cluster bulbs

What is the " T " number for the twist locks on the instrument cluster that holds the bulbs? I want to replace with LEDs. 1978

There is no "T number" for those lamps. They are called "miniature wedge base".

The general illumination lamps are trade # 192, 3 candlepower
The indicator lamps (like brake warning) are trade # 194, 2 candlepower

Some things to know before you replace:

1) You MUST use LEDs of the same color as the lens for the indicator lamps!

2) The turn signals indicators may not work properly with LEDs because of the circuit design.

3) Even if you buy so-called "dimmable" LEDs for general illumination you will not get any useful dimming range using the dimming rheostat in the headlamp switch. You can buy special dimmers but from the dimming voltage range I've seen (10-30V) for compatible lamps you'll most likely still get extremely little dimming.

Incandescents are very long lasting in these applications. They do loose brightness over significant periods of time so just replacing them in kind will probably make you very pleased with the amount (not to mention easy-on-they-eyes color) of light.
