What year is your car?
The dipstick you bought is for 1979 and earlier.
Why are you using the tube and not the flexible housing that came with the dipstick?

thanks for the reply i used the tube as it says to do or can damage engine/ dipstick . could i use it straight to block i thought the idea of the tube is to stop the dipstick from moving around in the oil pan
There is supposed to be a tube in the block, is it still there?
If not, what happened to it?
The tube in the picture is the lower tube that is supposed to be already there.

is the tube bolted inside the oil pan . the dipstick is listed for drivers side fitment looks like i might have to take oil pan off and look
Amazon and Summit both show this photo of that dipstick installed for reference. The two o-rings at the bottom of the new dipstick are supposed to be inserted in the opening in the block.

yes the dipstick fits like that but lokar say in the instructions i need a lower tube as damage can happen to engine internals . i am guessing the inner dipstick is long inside the block with no outer shield
Why wouldn't you have the lower tube?
Any reason why it would no longer be there?
Install the outer tube.
Start the engine.
Very very slowly insert the dipstick.
If you hear or feel anything STOP.

Ok, I get it now. If you can't tell if the lower tube is in place from above, you may have to pull the pan.
