Greetings,I’ll be needing a windshield replacement for my 78,I’m anticipating some frame repairs since that’s how things go,anyone out there in eastern mass who knows of a glass installer that knows what they’re doing??? Thanks in advance
Are you going to do the repairs yourself? If you are you can probably save and reuse your existing windshield ...if it's in good shape. Or after the repairs are made, why not re-install a new one yourself? It's easy to do. You can usually buy a windshield outright from any local installer. Call around for a good price. I think I paid $120-ish for mine last time. They've probably gone up nowadays by $20 or so. Use $150 as a budget number for the glass.
Otherwise if you want to have it done by someone else, any local installer can do that job.
Windshield cracked,I was going to bring to a friends body shop in case of any rust issues, I stopped in at a local Safelite glass installer and as soon as they saw it one of their stellar employees said “oh those things suck to do“ obviously I won’t be going there
Most bodyshops can remove windshields. When crashwork and deer hits come in a lot of time the windshield is cracked and they'll pull it, do the repair and paint work and usually have their local favorite glass-guy come in to install a new onet (to avoid liability). With a braided cable, a guy can have a windshield out in like 8 minutes once you've gotten the wire through.
Since your guy is going to remove the trim around the windshield frame, top/bottom/sides there won't be anything to damage and the windshield will come out like a breeze. I'm sure your body guy will clean the area up and at least sandblast around the frame ....if the metal is good.
