Default Help Identifying a Jasper motor

Hi Guys
First post. New to vettes, but not new to turning wrenches. Been stalking this forum and have used much of the info here to help me along with my project 1979. Thanks to everyone who takes time to answer a post. So, like the title says, I need help identifying a Jasper motor in my car. The PO handed over a folder of receipts, and told me it was a 5 year old crate motor, but not much else about it. In the folder is only a printout of a page from the Jasper website describing their product line. I reached out to the PO to ask if he had any paperwork on the motor, but he never got back to me. When I called Jasper, they said if the engine was one of theirs, I'd find a product ID number on the starter mount. Sure enough, it was there. Jasper motors product 471222. When I called back with this info, the guy in customer service was not very helpful answering most of my questions with "um, I think so" or "Im pretty sure....". He wasn't able to provide any info about the specific engine and now he doesn't return my calls.

The engine runs fine. I just want to complete the picture of this car by knowing whats under the hood. Thanks in advance.

have you asked for help from Your local Jasper branch ?

A pleasant written letter to Jasper's CEO Doug Bawel at HQ in Jasper Indiana may yield your answer.

Didn't see any local representation on their website; only their Indiana PO box. Hmmmmmm....a letter? Never thought about going that route. I'm gonna run with that. Thanks for the hint!

Be sure and ask if the engine ever had any warranty claims. There might be a reason they are reluctant to share info with you.

Just wanted to pass along an update. I took the advise of 71chimear and wrote a letter to Jasper. Without mentioning the disappointing interaction with Customer Service, I gave as much info as I could about the car and the motor and asked if there was anything they could do to help me identify the engine. Today, I got a response identifying the family of motor. they changed their part number scheme since my motor was produced so they were able to cross reference my number to the new scheme and sent the current product brochure for the motor. Exactly what I was hoping for. Gotta love this forum!
