Default It’s been sitting awhile

So new member and a new Corvette owner. My older neighbor had a 1976 which I have asked to buy for 20 years and finally he did. He has driven it like 10 times in two years. It has been in a garage and covered. I want to drive it more but do I need to maybe run a gas treatment or some sea foam through it.

My advice is to work on the whoa before working on the go. A C3 that has been sitting will have brake issues. Any caliper leaks? How does the pedal feel? Check the back side of the tires for tell tell signs of caliper leaks. Once you've done that I'd consider high octane fuel/fuel treatment. Is she running rough, stumbling? Maybe some carb cleaner assuming she's stock.

Welcome '76 brother! Need some pics man....
2TONE82 is right. Brakes first. It's usually the 1st thing to go from sitting....

Welcome aboard

The best advice I ever got here was
Make it go
make it stop
make it go FAST.

You could run some sea foam through it to see if that will get any of the gunk out. It cant hurt but the spray will make it will make it smoke like a pig until you burn it off, Im not sure about the in tank treatment smoking. It wont hurt anything

. I would check the oil frist to see if any condensation over the years left water in the oil. If not, start it, get it up to operating temp then do an oil change. And make sure you use a high zddp oil like MObil 20-50, a racing oil , or one that states its for the old fat tappet motors. No sense in wiping out your cam right away

Congratulations. IMHO skip the sea foam.

I would check the age of the tires.

All of the above. Check the brakes closely. Seafoam? Not if it runs fine. Change oil? Yes. High zinc? Yes, important! Change trans and diff fluids? Yes! Flush brake fluid at a minimum? Yes. Take it for relatively short test drives. Working up speed to test all operations of the car.
Repair as necessary. And continue to repair for the rest of your life. These are old cars.

Good news on that is he just put a whole new brake system on it and new exhaust. So you are thinking a good tank of premium and a fuel treatment would be good to start with..Thanks Mike

Good news he replaced the entire brake system like two or three years ago along with the exhaust. Think I posted a couple pictures on this post. I might need you as a resource as I get into what I want to do. Any ideas on where I can find a build sheet.

https://blog.amsoil.com/do-older-veh...0%20ppm%20zinc.

I used to use Mobil 1 20w50, it wwas very high in Zinc and very affordable at Wally world. I went to a roller cam for the performance and the ease of using any off the self oil I needed

Use 1 qt mysteroil for your first couple of oil changes. If it is a car that has not been started in a long while use this to lube the engine parts before you start. Mystery Oil
