Default Front Suspension Rebuild Kit

I ordered a front suspension rebuild kit from a forum sponsor vendor. It was a deluxe kit (more items than the std kit) and was also described as a Federal Mogul - Moog kit. Well it arrived yesterday as a drop shipment from another outfit (non-sponsor vendor in TN) and nothing in the kit was a Moog item. I checked with the original vendor and the rep stated that the "Federal Mogul - Moog" part of the item description was supposed to have been deleted and since it was an error they'd take it back and refund all my money if I didn't want to keep it.

After doing some price comparisons, I find I can order all the Moog items from parts stores but at almost twice the cost ($600ish vs. $300ish). The items I have already are supposedly USA made according to the vendor, but nothing on them states that. I checked with Moog and what I have is definately NOT Moog. I know Moog is no longer just produced in the US, but at least they are a known manufacturer.

What do you forum members think, Is it worth it to pay double for Moog over the unknown that I got?

Thanks,
Paul

I would. Even the names we trust are a bit of a crap shoot nowadays. Buying no-name crap is just asking for trouble.

I would buy the Moog ones. I had ball joints go bad from those kits in a short amount of time.

I ordered all my front in parts from RA, and all were MOOG.

Yeah, you all are right so I just "bit the bullet" and went with the all Moog order and will return the "unknown" stuff to the vendor for a refund.

Ordered most from RockAuto which had great prices and even found a 5% discount code on line which was accepted!

RA didn't have a Moog Idler Arm, but I did order that from Advance Auto along with the tie rod sleeves that were actually cheaper there than at RA. Advance had free shipping and a 25% discount offer to boot!

In the long run, it ended up "only" being 50% more (not double like I originally thought) to go all Moog than sticking with Brand X ($440 vs $305 including tax & shipping).

Now I just have to continue media blasting suspension pieces and POR-15ing them and the frame while I wait for all the parts to arrive...

I rebuilt my front end with a kit from one of the major corvette vendors and the ball joints and tie rod ends failed in a very short period of time. I purchased all moog replacement parts from RA to rebuild the front end again. Comparing the moog parts to the off brand parts there is definetly a significant difference in quality. I have a friend who has owned his own repair shop for over twenty years and he told me the cheap off brand stuff is really nothing but junk. As they say you get what you pay for.
