My interior door lock ***** on my 1968 keep falling off every time I close the door. I put the clip on and then push them on but they still seem loose. Is there a different clip and maybe I have the wrong ones? Both lock mechanisms are new and recently replaced.
Give the clip a squeeze as tight as you can before putting in onto the ****, if when you put it onto the **** it's loose again it's a cheap clip and not hardened/tempered to act like a proper spring and it just loosens up as it flexes over the splined end of the shaft and doesn't come back.
The clips are nothing special and used on a zillion GM cars, readily available at any NAPA, ask around someone probably has a half dozen in their toolbox
FWIW, most of the repro ***** (and manual window cranks) have the slot cut too far towards the end compared to the originals. it would appear that the slots are cut rather than cast into the parts.
This leaves the **** too far out from the panel and lets it flop around, potentially shifting the clip all the way to one side and can pop off
