Default 1982 corvette Heater Core replacement

Hey all! Been trying to get my center gauge cluster out to get to the heater core. I’ve taken all the screws out plus the two 1/4 inch bolts underneath that connect the cluster to the shifter plate. However, it seems like the gauge cluster wont come out at all?

I would appreciate the help greatly!

I have not removed the center gauge cluster on a 1982 and am not sure if there are any differences than the 1979 and 80’s I am familiar with. On those cars there is a socket and bulb for the heater control that is mounted to the top of the gauge cluster. It sticks up above the cluster behind the lip of the dash. If you pull on the gauge cluster you can crack the dash. So this does not happen, I remove all the screws for the console plate, so I can slide it back enough, so the center gauge cluster is not resting on it. You can then slide the gauge cluster down a bit so the socket for the heater control, clears the dash, pull the cluster out a bit, so you can reach behind it and remove the wiring connections.

The radio ***** and nuts behind them also have to be removed. Then the rear support for the radio has to be removed, so the radio can be slid back from the gauge cluster.
