Looking for suggestions and ideas on how to go about fixing the battery box on my '81, or if anyone knows someplace that sells them.
My current plan is to somehow make a upper and lower mold of some sort then lay up a new one with a few cloth layers with a couple mat layers on each side then use the mold to press it together and finally tooth it in to the original clip cut and glass it on. Or is that all too much, should I just grind off the minimum swelling and loose layer and just fill holes?
My main concern is the strength of the bond between the clip and new bottom and the strength of the new bottom itself. Also worry a little bit about the quality of the replacement piece I can make. If its going to look bubba anyway I really don't want to put in all the effort.
I had similar issue with mine and with no experience with fiberglass I was able to rebuild the box. I used wax paper as a backer and taped it over the holes from the bottom. Grind out the surrounding areas with an abrasive disc and layer in the fiberglass a little bit at a time. I alternated between patching the top and underneath. Here is a few shots of the wax paper taped into place.
