Most hardware stores, Home Depot, Lowes, etc and Walmart make keys, but I believe I'd trust a locksmith plus a locksmith can make you a key from the number on the cylinder.
What is the best way to get a duplicate of my ignition key? Its a 1970. I only have 1 and would like to change that before its too late.
Thanks
So I went through this just last year.
I found that neither of the bigbox stores (lowes/home depot) supported old automotive keys.
BUT
the old hardware store just down the street still had a key station and numerous old GM/Ford/Ply/Chr/etc blanks.
They made me a new key in minutes = for less than $2.00
While researching this I also found that there are no longer any standalone locksmith shops.
Everything I found on the web/google search that was "near by" (and there were many) were all "mobile service only" and calls all eventually yielded the same person despite the web search giving a physical address for each which did not actually exist.
So appears that locksmiths have purchased all the web pointers and there is just one or two mobile units that "appear" to be "local".
