Default Crack - best method to fix

I have a crack below the bolt hole, for the bumper right under the flat spot where the bumper mounts. See pictures below. The crack is right under the bonding stip. I figure, I will first grind it out, second, I will fill it with fiberglass mat. Thoughts? Bob Messina

Crack from inside under bonding strip

Crack from outside under bolt hole

I can’t tell exactly what I’m looking at, however fixing cracks in fiberglass Corvette bodies can be done in several ways. I prefer a light scraping out of the crack and using epoxy cement to stop any further movement or reopening of the crack. On the face side that is exposed I try to “V” cut the crack just enough to allow fiberglass repair to fill and grab the break. Mask off 1/2” to both sides of the crack and sand smooth when fiberglass filler is cured. Remove tape and fine sand the repaired line. Finish with your preferred priming and painting.

Yeah, Z06 (two posts above) has good suggestions. V the hole out with a grinder, dremel, or grinder on a drill, get some clear epoxy and fiberglass matt. Vacuum off the dust or blow off with compressed air. Apply some liquid epoxy then several layers of fiberglass matt, adding epoxy as you go. Make sure to agitate the matt around in the epoxy a little with a screwdriver or whatever so the strands become 'clear'. The more matt the better. If you are using fiberglass 'cloth' pull off and cut up some individual fiberglass strands and run them every which way (random) on the last couple layers ....so the cloth doesn't telegraph through the repair when you're finished. If you have a roller or a way to compact the strands together at the end before it all hardens up, that's even better/stronger. It's better if you use an epoxy with a longer working time.

Grind down and finish off the repair after it hardens. Re-drill your hole and you're done.
