Default Wiper door problem. Yes another one.

Wiper door only opens with override switch. Worked the other day now it doesn't. Replaced most of the wiper door vacuum system parts when I restored the car. yes i did a search. Found a couple of things.

Check the electrical signal at the tach solenoid when the wiper switch is activated

Since I'm old, stiff and somewhat fat I removed the drivers seat to ease access when I removed mine for cleaning.

Although I'm not sure, I would think you should be able to hear or even feel a "click" on the solenoid. IIRC that solenoid is powered by the relay under the console but start at the easier to get to bit first

I have never seen a bad solenoid but have had a few bad relays.

For some strange reason they wanted to work today. Can't fix it if it's not broken.

sounds like more of a bad connection somewhere.
Were the wipers working when the door wasn't?

The the relay should be OK then, really sounds like the solenoid, next time you're under the dash double check the wires to it

Went through everything and it was all tight. I don't know. I like to keep the car all stock but if the electric conversion was a couple hundred insteat of over $1000 I would do it. But for now they are working.

That's the important part (it's working), well that and knowing that if it does quit you can use the override to open the door and the wipers still operate to get you home

Actually the day it stopped working I put the car in the driveway and it started to rain. Then when I pulled it in the wipers didn't work. I guess now they don't work in the rain. I never drive the car in the rain so the wipers have to work once a year...inspection time. Thank you and everyone else for their replies and help.
