Default Correct Brake Shield Color

Anyone know the correct color on brake shields for a 72?
Zinc/silver? Or the Dichromate/gold?

6500 mile 72 original finish the front dust shield was made by GM or a sub contractor. The rear dust shield was made by Delco Moraine. The finish for the front was a more silver finish the rear had silver finish but had a very light galvanized look.

Thanks! That's what I wanted to see.

Were they really the other color on the C2s?

The backing plates used on 65-75's were all plated the same silver color, or what some refer to as white cadmium. 76-82 backing plates were plated with the gold zinc finish.

That is not a correct statement as the front and rear shields were not produced by the same company. You have to see the variations on original low mileage cars to know there was a difference in the finishes. Photos do not show the subtle variation between both.

Also the 76 to 82 also had a silver coating under the the final gold wash for the final protective coating. 30 plus years ago had a plater walk me through the plating process in his shop. He had me do some of the items I was having plated at his shop.
