Has anyone installed a red ACC carpet kit? I just received mine and it looks kind of cheap. I did some research and found that Al Knoch was apparently the best. So, in anticipation of returning what I got and buying a different set I called and got a very nice lady that said it wasn't ACC fault and that all carpets appear a lot cheaper now because of regulation regarding on how carpet can be made. I appreciated the honest answer and was left with the impression she got the questions before. So now I'm faced with the decision to either leave mine alone and clean and glue it back in place the best I can or take a chance, tear it all out and go for it. Was wondering if anybody dealt with this (pics would be cool) and what the outcome was.
I have the red ACC carpet in my 80. It is thin. I think ACC makes several grades of carpet, and the grade that is wholesaled to Corvette vendors is not their highest grade. For about $300- for a set on sale, I'm not looking to replace it.
I have not installed a AAC or Al Knoch carpet yet but the one thing I have seen on the net that makes me lean to the AAC is the correct color bright blue for the 69’s. The way it’s listed on the Al K sight is blue for 68 and 69. But that itself is a problem as the color is different for 68 to 69 so right there one of the colors is wrong. Someone compared the AAC 69 color bright blue to an original piece of carpet from under the seat which was not faded and they looked extremely close. I believe it was Willcox in a thread a long time ago. But the Al Knoch seemed much lighter, which might be correct for 68 blue. But it was awhile ago and maybe he updated the colors. I don’t know.
Since I have a blue interior, I want the correct shade. Knoch might have a better quality carpet, I don’t know that either. But if it’s not the correct color then to me it’s not going to work.
I will start a new thread on the blue color soon when I’m ready to buy the carpet which is a few months away.
BAD Carpet posts are becoming as common as Goodrich Tires with “Yellow Letters.” I installed ACC Loop Carpet about two years ago. The install went in very well with some advanced reading and informative help from Willcox. Unfortunately, the black loop carpet is already staring to wear around the vent kick panel. I drive the car about two or three times a month for maybe 20 minutes. The carpet is obviously JUNK, the ACC Loop Mats look like their are ten years old! IT’S No surprise that the floor carpeting is starting to wear, because it’s made out of the same cheap material as the floor mats. I called to complain about the floor mats being junk, and was told that ACC didn’t care. My next carpet will be from Al Knoch, I don’t see how it could be any worse.
That's my point in question, when talking with a rep from Knoch, they said there is only one mill that they're all getting the carpet from and even though it may fit better it will still be the same material.

Don't know if this is relevant but I just had wall-to-wall carpeting installed and the salesman mentioned that all the carpet suppliers were forced to switch to water-based glues. So the 35 year old sun-faded carpet I pulled up still felt better than the new stuff. The only positive note was that it wan't made overseas but here in the US.
