MY 1982 fuel gauge is stuck just above 1/4. Previous told me resistor is probably bad. Pulled and resistor was only on 1 post. It read 90 ohms and I installed correctly. Same problem. Did resistance test. Pulled resistance wire and gauge went full. Grouneed it and gauge went empty. Replaced sending unit and have same problem. Old sending unit reads correct ohms out of car. I also get 90 ohms on resistor when it's off of gauge. When it's on gauge, I stI'll get 90 ohms. I should only get about 47 ohms. Does mean my gauge is bad?

Do you have the GM service manual? There is a troubleshooting chart in there for this condition. If not, get one for a car that is almost 40 years old. Also, even though this isn't for an 82, it may give you some info to your issue.
I used Wilcox fuEl gauge info. That's what led me to replace sending unit. They also told me about the 47 ohms resistance for resistor when it's mounted on gauge posts.
