Default Carb and intake decision

I’ve got a ‘68 L36 4spd coupe that the po installed a later model cast intake on it with a 72 Pontiac qjet. I can’t get the idle below 1100rpm and the choke is gone.
Im trying to decide wether to go with a LS6 intake with a Holley or just order a rebuilt qjet with an electric choke and run the intake that’s on it.
The rebuilt qjet would be the cheapest way out. Though I’m not above switching intakes also, though it runs like a scalded dog as is.
i just can’t stand the fast idle. Thoughts or opinions appreciated

Where is the vacuum advanced hooked to? Do you have a vacuum leak?

You could just fix what you have. I think you can add an electric choke kit if you really need it.

Some people are quick to blame IGN timing or primary throttle on fast idle issues.

Are the secondary throttle blades closing?

Thanks for the responses, I’ve got no vacuum leaks. Advance is correctly connected. Po has bent corner of primary blade so it wouldn’t “choke” off. Fires up with about three pumps of gas and idles at 1100. But if it had a correct set up carb it should kick down to a better Slower idle speed. I believe I’ll just order a rebuilt Chevy qjet with electric choke. I’d like to put back the factory hard fuel lines anyway. It has a home brew setup to feed the Pontiac carb.

I would find a good used core and have it redone by a pro like Lars before I would buy a "rebuilt" unit........about 1 out of 8 of these rebuilt units work right. Summit racing is selling refurbed Q-jets with good reviews but they are 4 bills and the jury is still out to me.
If it were my car......it would get the LS-6 intake and a 770 Truck Avenger carb (0-90770). The intake is about 50 lbs. lighter....flows a bit better due to the huge runners......and while you are in there you can run the Fel Pro intake gasket with the block off.

That second part sounds like a plan to me, as I just wanted a nudge in the LS6 direction
