Default 1970 Build Year and Dates Question?

Hi Everyone, hope you are all having a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving. I have just acquired a 1970 Coupe in Bridgehampton Blue, L46, 4 Spd. Car. I am not new to the forums, but new to C3's. My car is #112** built on June 28, 1970. I need your help in a couple of areas.

1) Is it true that due to a UAW strike the 1970 Corvette did not start production until Jan/Feb 1970?
2) How long were 1970 C3's built?
3) For the L46 350/350, was the Intake Manifold Casting Number 3965577 only or could it also be 3973469 ?
4) How far apart would an Intake Casting Date be from the build date of the car??
5) The Car's S/N Pad has the matching numbers on the left side of the pad and on the right is VO519 CTH. I know the CTH is 350 High Performance, 4 spd car. Anyone know what the VO519 means.
All answers are greatly appreciated. Please write back even if you have an answer of input into eveon one of the questions above.
Hope all enjoy the day as best as possible.

Best Regards,
Scott

V0519 means the engine was assembled on May 19 at the Flint engine plant.

Yes. 1969 production ran longer than normal. 1970 production began the first week of January, 1970.

...2) How long were 1970 C3's built?...
1970 production ended in July, 1970.

1. not due to strike, another theory is that 70 production was not ready with the new engines, new body styles, emissions, anbd extra 69 parts to run production til end of year... same is true for camaros which didnt come out until 1st of year either
4. doesn't really matter, as longs as before the car was built, we have no info on how the factory did first in/last out queueing of the parts, older parts got stacked in the back or queued in the back, plus line stoppages for various reasons. one month is reasonable plus or minus a few weeks. 6 months is considered way out there but documented cases exist.

The intake was # 3965577, my #11437 built June 6, has a (C) March dated intake manifold. I’ve read that you could find parts dated six months prior to build date.

Technically speaking, yes, 6 months. However 7 to 30 days prior to build is much more believable.

Default Our Cars were built the same day! - My first C3 Issue!

So Boat196, thank you and everyone else for this information. Seem our cars were built on the same day. The C3 site says my car was built on June 6, 1970 as well, it is #11241. With that in mind I would guess that the Intake Manifold should realistically be date coded as Feb, March, April, or May of 1970.

Now here is issue #1 with the 70 today. A simple thing that turns into a problem. I went to replace a RH Parking Light Bulb with a new 1157A. Should be pretty easy and straightforward. First I found one hole with a screw snapped off in the casting, one hole with a Wood Screw in another hole and one original screw all to hold the lens. So I cleaned everything well and cleaned out the reflector area. I removed the bulb socket, from behind whose gasket crumbled in my hand. Also I did not know the Parking light was moulded as part of the Grill Assembly! Surprise! So what is the best way to attach this repair? I tried drilling out the screw, but the Screw steel is so much harder than the surrounding metal, that doing this on the car is difficult. I got a hole started in the center but it now seems that even new drill bits are doing nothing. Should I remove the entire grill to work on this? Or is there some other suggestions?

Regards,
Scott

Beautiful car! Enjoy! My 1970 454 is just a little younger with a birth date of 7/28/70. And, I’m in Melville, so we’re practically neighbors.

That's great, you are about 5 minutes away by Corvette! I am very new to the C3's. You have a beautiful car! You and I also use the exact same spots to photograph our cars. Your picture is looking west I guess, My picture below is looking east from around the same area except with my another member of the family. In fact the car below is with me for 46 years! I even had my first date with my now wife in this car! I still have both ! I always wanted a C3 and this seemed like the right one! I look forward to meeting you someday in the future.

Scott post a new thread regarding this issue as it will overlooked here for other opinions. If you don't have a good quality Assembly guide, buy one before you do anything else. Take pictures of what your currently trying to fix so you know how it goes back together. Needless to say your car being 50 years old hard to know what has been done or not to it and it is fragile believe me. The screws you speak of you maybe be able to use a penetrant and let is soak overnight ( be careful of the spray use rags to protect surfaces) it may allow you to extract it but be very careful as the grills if original are priceless only copies now made. If you feel in doubt you can carefully remove the grill and maybe a machine shop extraction is best.
I'm rebuilding a 70' from the ground up........be careful and think all things through or it can get expensive in a hurry.

70 Assembly Manual I spoke of.

Thank you, excellent advice. Disassembly is next. I'll review my plan with the grill off the car.

30 June 1970!

Patience, patience, patience. When you get frustrated, when things are not progressing as you want, step away, relax, breath deeply and, in my case, have a cup of New Market Spice Tea.

Enjoy!

1970, 1971,1972 look alike but have many differences. From the Grilles to the egg crates, seats and dash, gauge colors (white vs green lettering) .

Looks like a great car, enjoy..

The corvette guys' usually meet at Panera Bread on 110 in Wall Mart parking lot on Sat Morning about 9 am. For coffee..
