Once in a while, I check prices on 255/60r15 and 225/70r15's for C3's, and today I was surprised to see the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 appears to be back?
Firehawks in 15's with white letters haven't come up in searches for a very long time, and I had assumed Firestone had stopped making them, maybe 6-7 years ago.
BFG Radial T/A prices keep going up, and there have been a lot of complaints in recent years about the white letters turning brown and staying brown on the T/A's, so it would be great to have other options...hopefully Firestone is making them again, but that would certainly be unusual.
Right, I checked that site too. Walmart is listing them in 255/60r15's as well , but I now see that all eBay and WalMart listings for the 15" Firehawks show the seller as Priority Tire. There are reviews for the 15" Firehawks from buyers dating to 2019. It's hard to believe Priority Tire as a retailer would be legally allowed to sell tires that are 6 or 7+ years old, but maybe that is the case. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Firestone...-Tire/17511474
Had these tires on all 3 of my cars for years. They are quiet and good handling tires. Would love to have a new set but haven't seen them for sale in over 15 years.
Would be surprised if these are new vs NOS. On the other hand; I'm intrigued that Walmart is hosting Priority Tire as a retail supplier if they were actually selling obsolete tires so perhaps they are in reproduction.
Great tire at a great price if true.

the size tab at the bottom lists all the sizes available for the firehawks. I have a 17 inch set and love them although they dont really chirp or smoke at all. thats kinnd of disappointing

Yeah, I've heard good things and always liked the looks of the Indy 500, although never had them on a car. Some of the white-letter fonts used, like Cooper and Mastercraft are kind of on the slightly large side (I would still buy them if BFG has not yet corrected the white-letters-turning-brown debacle). Radial T/A's obviously have a great visual profile and near period-correct look since they've been around since the early 70's.
I contacted Priority Tire and they won't provide DOT codes on the Firehawk; I think these are NOS tires they are selling. Very strange, they must have found and purchased a whole whack of them and they also have them in different sizes up to 275/60r15 and 295/50r15's. I thought there would be a law against selling tires older than 2-3 years, but I guess not.
Here's Priority's answer to my request for DOT codes: Hello, Thank you for your email and we apologize for the late reply. Please be informed that the tires are new and they have never been used or mounted before. We usually have the year of manufacturing all our tires, but there is a significant number of tires that their DOT has not registered yet. However, we visually inspect each tire in order to guarantee every single one to be 2012 or newer, thus ensuring we do not sell tires older than 2012. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Kind regards, Oscar G. Customer Service Representative
2012 Tires are 9 years old......That is what I would expect to receive if I ordered those tires. A lot of tire shops would not mount them being that old. Better off buying some newer tires. You will probably not wear those out before they actually become unsafe.

So you are buying a tire that at most has only two years of shelf life left. I'm sure they are not informing the purchasers of potential risk in buying NOS tires that old.
They definitely should inform the buyer that they are NOS. Listing as "new" like they are is disingenuous.
I wouldn't buy them.
Always heard and read that 7 years old from new, regardless of condition, and it's time for new tires.
Makes sense.
Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up before figuring out what's going on here! Really surprised that selling them like they are is legal.
It is not illegal but in the case of a tire failure causing injury or damage it sounds like they could be held liable especially if Firestone says 7 years is the limit. Read the link below. https://tuffyfranchising.com/used-ti...f%20the%20sale.
Have 245/40r17s on my 2016 Miata. They are amazing tires. Would love new new stock white letter tires to replace the scary 8 year old tires I currently have on my vette.
