Default Mysterious green wire

I have an insulated green wire coming out of my alternator wiring. Where should it be connected please. I bought this 72 about 4 weeks ago. It hadn’t been driven in 9 years. I’ve been pulling it out of hibernation.

check the temperature sending unit it may go to it. It should be located behind the alternator on the left side between cylinders 1&2.

I went to my Alan 71 photo collection. I could have posted mine but it's not as pretty/clean/spotless/etc.

that was my first thought, but the temp sending unit has a tan wire (uninsulated) going to it......maybe that is wrong........sigh.......

Does your temp gauge work? If it does, will it turn off if you unplug the tan wire?
Maybe it's been rewired at some point.

Green wire should be the temp sender. On my 79' the tan wire goes to the combo valve switch.

Agreed both exit the factory harness in the same general area. Here is the '72's wiring schematic detail:

Thank you,
I have a tan wire into the brake line distribution block per the schematic. Your schematic shows a 2nd tan wire.......where does that go? It’s not shown.

I feel like an idiot continuing to ask.......I had this engine torn apart just 10 days ago. It had been in storage for 9 years, and only driven 800 miles in the last 36 years (documented). I truly am pulling it out of hibernation!

Yes it still has the original heat shielding on it. That is the original wire . But as said it may have been replaced by the tan one at some point in time . Look for the tan piece that maybe spliced back into the green at some point .

Ask away, we've all been there.
I saw your other post that is focused on the second tan wire and attached Willcox Corvette's '72 wiring pic over there. The tan wire from under the wiper motor is really just exiting the main harness under there and doesn't come through the firewall at that point. It's for the carb idle stop solenoid that is on the front accelerator side of the carb. Your car may no longer have this part installed - my '72's is missing too. It closes the throttle plates to prevent run-on dieseling.
