So a friend and I looked over the car and there appears to be a leak in the power steering. We think we pinpointed it to this nut on the power steering pump. My question is there an "o" ring on the inside of this nut between it and the pump?

I also know I need to replace the the gaskets on the valve covers
When I changed the hoses on my 73, the pump fitting was the only one that didn’t leak. I read from one member who suggested loosening the fitting a tad, then retighten it and wait to see if it leaks. This worked for me, until later on when the valve started leaking. I had the service shop replace the valve, as the new valve has to be centered and the process is to start the engine with the front wheels off the ground. Seemed like that would be asking for trouble without a lift.
Eliredandblack,
You don't need a lift / hoist. Just ramps. And the tires don't actually have to be off the ground.
By disconnecting the cylinders chrome rod, at the frame bracket (one nut and a cotter pin) the C. valve can adjust the rod in or out, centering the rod, with engine running.
That way the steering resistance from tie rods, linkage, etc is removed from the equation, so to speak.
Great, great article. Its amazing that rebuilt units from the parts store are as cheap as they are. Lots of labor for sure.
I think the worst part is getting the pulley off w/o distorting.
