Default Tail lights operation

Hey all, I have questions regarding the tail lights, turn and brake lights.
Any chance someone could take a quick video showing:
1) brakes on,
2) turn signals on,
3) brakes on with turn signals going?
That would be so great if you could!

Mine's been off the road so long, not sure what they do, and I have a couple of ideas for mods.
Thanks!
Paul

If stock you have four lenses.
The inner two are backup only.
The two outer have dual filament bulbs, one filament for brake and one for signal.

And the turn signal interrupts the brake light filament.

Ah, gotcha! Thanks guys. Just a single bulb in the outer 2, and those are turn and brake both?

Yes, and also illuminated when the lights are on (both park and full headlights)

Presumably at reduced voltage?

Ok, I see now. It's been about 15 yrs since I could drive the car, and never noticed the taillights honestly. Now I'm thinking of a mod back there, and need to understand how they work again!

Thanks for your patience!

68s had paired lights, and independent backup lights. If that is the mod you are considering, it is easy to do (I have it in my 80), and gives you twice as many brake lights. Just hang some white LED strips or a license plate frame for backup lights.

That's partially it. Do you have the modified wiring diagram? Which wire does what?

I just cut the stock sockets out, and spliced four new ones, two in parallel on each side. The outboard lights have three wires, one is ground, the others are color coded, or you can ring it out with the proper bulb.

If you are looking to separate indicator function from brake lights, good luck. They are combined into one wire by the time they get to the rear harness.

While BS'ing with a friend who wanted to modify his 71's tail lights I came up with : copying the outside lights to the original back up lights - so you have 2 turn lights each side and 2 brake lights as well as 2 running lights each side.

For a back up light I told him to stick a super bright LED in the alarm key hole with a chrome ring. He went with 2 - 1" super bright LED lights just under the bumper for the back up lights.
