The K stands for KELSEY, the 1 stands for the manufacturing plant (all original Corvette wheels we have observed were stamped with plant 1), and the third digit is the year. fourth digit month and fifth/sixth digit is day AZ is a 8 inch width Rim
I wonder if the thing that looks like an "L" is actually the edge of the gang stamp holder?
In addition, definitely not 1968 date, most likely 1978. 1968 dates were stamped to be read from the outside edge of the rim
left to right, opposite of how this rim is stamped.
That is a K187 and was an over the counter wheel made in 1987. The line that makes it look like an L is just from the stamp holder.
In addition, it reads K187 (space) 5 (valve stem) 5 (space) AZ. The 5 and 5 would be May 5th. We know no AZ rim was made May 1968. 1968 rims for 1969 model year are stamped K18. The 1978 would also only have K18 stamped but was stamped the opposite way as the 68 and the font was different. When you see the K187 thru K194 those are dates from 1987 thru 1994. There may be earlier ones also from 1985 on, not sure. The extra forth digit in the K187 denotes the later date. Earlier rims had only three digits.
