Default 1978 Radio

Hi Guys, I'm new to this whole forum thing but I'm having trouble with the radio in my 78 vette and figured this would be the best place to get some help. So my vette has front and rear speakers and my rear speakers don't work, I immediately tried messing with the fader control but found it did not work, the **** more less just spun freely so i removed the radio from the dash to examine it better and after looking at the bass tone control **** and the tuner **** it doesn't look like there was never a fader control **** which made me wonder if the previous owner replaced the radio with an older one that didn't have the fader control such as a 77 model and prior since they didn't have rear speakers therefore not needing a fader control ****. If thats the case and the radio in my 78 is one from a 77 or older without the fader control would that be why my rear speakers don't work? Thanks !

So the left **** you can see has the white collar looking piece around it which is for the bass tone adjustment but the right side has no white collar looking piece which it should for the fader control. thats why i believe my radio is from a 77 or older model but i wasn't sure if anyone else could tell me more

Are there any labels anywhere on the radio? Take a picture of the back where the connectors plug in, that will tell you right away if it has rear speakers.
Here's a 79 AM/FM/CB.

For what it's worth that is NOT an original 78 radio.
Original would have black pushbuttons.

Without a photo of the paper data sticker it's all guesses.
I agree with KapsSA, no chrome push buttons in 77 or 78 for the Corvette Radios.
Without the fader inner shaft my guess it's a Mono radio.

Listen to KapSa, whatever advice he has to give is the best you're going to find. I wouldn't be any help, so I'm just passing that along.

thanks for all the responses. Here are some more pics of the radio I pulled out of my 78. It doesn’t look like there is a fader control inside the housing behind the shaft at all. It does have chrome ***** though. Does this basically mean that this is not the original radio and could that be the reason my rear speakers do not work?

So here’s what I found out, I ran a jumper wire from the plug on the back of my radio for the front speakers over to the plug for the rear speakers and I got sound from the rear speakers which tells me there is either something busted inside the radio not sending power to the rear speakers or the radio is from an older model like I originally thought and it just isn’t compatible with the rear speakers. Either way I just ordered a whole new radio. Thanks for the input guys !
