Default Lokar throttle cable question

Hey guys

I attached a picture of the issue. That part of the cable that goes into the open end of that threaded piece, I can physically move it with my hand. Is that normal operation? I have put the pedal wot multiple times and it has not binded or gotten stuck at wot but I don’t know whether the cable is supposed to do this or if it’s broken.

I thought the piece on the right was only to keep the fraying to a minimum. Doesn't the piece on the left narrow to prevent the wire braid portion from going in to the threaded piece more? Otherwise the spring on the cable keeps everything together

Your cable is not broken. That part you're holding slides in and everything tightens up when you install the nuts that hold the spring retainer bracket (see my pic). Then you can adjust the cable at the carb and everything else stays in place.

Pic........

Thanks for the responses. I was unsure as to whether the piece from the first pic actually moved on its own when the gas pedal is depressed or if it stays in place and only moves if you physically pull it out like i did in the photo. I attached a couple more photos of the install. I will have someone press the pedal and I will watch to ensure that piece does not move. I was afraid that it may have been faulty and there was a possibility of the cable being stuck in WOT position.

I haven't used a Lokar cable on a carb setup but a number of times on LS swaps. That aluminum piece is held in place by the out side sheath of the throttle cable. You need to make sure the cable puts a little pressure on the aluminum piece. I typically squish the aluminum piece a tiny bit to oblong it so its a bit press fit to hold it in place. I've never a had an issue with the the Lokar cable binding or coming apart at WOT.

Thats a good idea, would it be the same outcome to wrap that piece in some tape or something to make it sit snug in that opening?

Having thought about this a bit how about a couple of drops of epoxy to hold the aluminum piece in place? I don't think there is room for tape. Could be wrong.

Actually i think you are correct, it appears to be quite close, some epoxy drops should do the trick! Thanks!

it is correct. Once you have the cable connected to the throttle lever the spring pressure keeps everything together. I have the same thing on my sniper

I just installed one on my 69. The cables come with a clevis mount installed on the pedal end that can be removed. It has a ball on the end that you use in the stock manner. However, the ball on mine was smaller than on the stock cable and pulled through the plastic retainer first time I tested it. I ended up epoxying a small washer with a smaller hole on top of the plastic retainer. All good now. I also had to use fender washers on both the inside and outside of the firewall mount, as the hole was almost as big as the retaining nuts on the Lokar cable. All minor inconveniences. Cable works great. Other years may vary.

That's what I figured,.....you have to modify it to work. Too bad Lokar doesn't make a cable that fits. I will stick with factory. Another solution looking for a problem.

It really was no big deal. On my 69 the stock cable where it mounted to the firewall would bend at the hole through the firewall after a couple hard presses of the pedal, causing me to lose pedal travel. Hated it so that’s why I switched.

I bought the Lokar pedal, you would want the largest pedal size, the small one is tiny

Really, it's no problem at all. It fits like stock. Buy the 24" length, and you won't have to cut it. No modding necessary. It's actually harder to get the stock one out than installing the new Lokar.
