The 68, 69 lower fenders do not have the " skirts " or flair out to stop the rocks from hitting the side of the car. The 70 and up does. Look at side shots and you can see the fender flare on the later cars.

Also 72 gauges are white face as opposed to the earlier one's that are green lettered faces.

All the chrome bumper C3's are great. The 68 is a PIA as many items are 68 only.

Also more cars became available with A/C and Auto as the years progressed,

welcome aboard,
i have a '72 here in adelaide, 4th owner, also a San Fran car, have had it just over 10yrs,
numbers matching, rust free frame, unmolested, (even still has the smog pump on engine), 350, AT, PS,TT, PW, AC, paid 40,000$ back then from Qld.
and then i would have spent another 15-20K easily on it, rebuilt motor, trans, etc., still could do with a paint job, more $$$
the chrome bumper car are appreciating in value every year.

where are you based?
as said above, try the local clubs,
as an example we have our club show n shine display this weekend, there's usually always cars for sale on display.
