Default 68 lug wrench

Recently was able to secure the 7J jack for my car and it came with a lug wrench. The car already had a lug wrench (the rusty one) that appears different than the one that came with the jack. They are both 3 hole wrenches but the rivets and pry bar parts (flat edge on top of one and on bottom edge of the other) are different. Anyone able to confirm what years these wrenches were made for?

Anyone have a pic of their known early 68 lug wrench?

Can't confirm but this from the Corvette Restorer magazine that covered jacks and handles. Spring 2013. Nothing mentioned about early or late 68.

Info for the 68 handle.

GM 3898172
Holes in handle= three-elongated
grommet-yes
Hub cap end= pointed
Dimensions= 12" x 3 1/2"
Two piece handle

In 76 they started with 2 drilled holes in the side rails and 1 elongated (in the U) and rounded cap end.

Hopefully someone with an original will post up some pics.

This one on ebay claims to be correct ?: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Corvette-Or...oAAOSwawZbV0~o

Also, how is the jack secured when stored? I’ve seen pictures of how the wrench fits inside the jack, but haven’t seen any pictures how the spring holds down the jack.

I’ve seen the one on eBay, actually contact the seller as he originally mis labeled it as a Sept jack. The wrench rivets match my rusty one...but the pry bar end seems to match my purchased one.
Might not be a difference between early and later 68 wrench, just thought I would include that to try to get a response from an early 68 owner.
I’m betting my rusty wrench is correct for 68 and the purchased one isn’t a match for the jack that came with it.

Thanks, wouldn’t have thought it stands up. Thought it would be on its side.

Wish I would have saw this earlier today when I was in the garage. I have a 68 jack and lug wrench together in storage configuration. I just took it out of the original car last weekend. I’ll try to get to the garage later tonight or tomorrow and post a few pictures

Thanks. If your car’s like mine it’s switched hands quite a few times and parts changed along the way.
When you post some pics please verify your knowledge of the originality of the parts.

Thankfully this car isn’t like yours. It’s on its second owner and everything is original. Second owner bought it after it had been sitting about 25 years. I know both owners and are pretty reliable sources.

Only thing it was missing is the ashtray door. I took a photo of the jack and wrench. Wrench is rusted into the jack, I’ll try to get them apart later today.

Great to see a 2 owner car. Would really appreciate a close up photo of the rivets and the pry bar end of that wrench.
interpon, thanks for that info on evaporust, I needed a good lead on a rust remover.
