Default Question about tires 77' Corvette

I know there are alot of forum posts about this but I was wondering about my year of shark specifically. My goodyear eagle gt IIs are old and worn and Ive been looking to replace them. The 77 corvette came stock with 225-70R15s, my corvette currently has 235-60R15s. I want 255-60R15s on all four corners but ive heard it both ways if it will fit or not. Generally pre 76 owners say they wont fit without some modifications on theirs, post 78 vette owners say it fits fine, but 77 owners are a mixed bag. Some say they fit fine with absolutely no rubbing, some say it rubs on the frame. Im only 20 and working minimum wage so I dont really want to buy tires that will rub but at the same time 255s look awesome and it would be a cool first real upgrade. So should I try for 255s? I could put wheel spacers on, Otherwise I might just stagger them and do 235s in front and 255s in back.

On my 77 back in the day the 255's would rub when steering was turned full left or right. But only then...

Bought the 255s from Bf goodrich and couldnt be happier, they look way better and give it a more sports car look from behind. No rubbing or anything either.

Nice looking 77 you've got there, and I do like the 255's on it.

1978 was the first year for optional 255/60/15 tires. Many 1978 cars with this option had the front wheel openings trimmed at the factory to provide a little extra room. If you don’t mind different sizes 235/60/15 lowers the front about an inch. High speed driving feels a bit more stable to me, especially on rutted freeway. You also lose 0.79 inches in thread width per side.

255/60/15 rear. 235/60/15 front. Base stock suspension
