Default This weeks challenge, looking for ideas

Hey brain trust,
Here is my need . . . . .

I have a 1969 with a speed warning speedometer.
What I do not have is the cable to adjust the position of the needle for the warning setting. Unless someone has one available and for sale, I am looking for a functional replacement.
the connector in the speedo is a simple square female end similar to a square shaped tube. The control cable would be somewhat flexible with a long squared/rectangular end that slips into the speedo side.
simply turning the cable changes the settings.

I picture a bicycle brake cable with a long small rectangular crimped on fitting.
Does anyone have ideas what I might use for this? Obviously this is not stock but my ride is not stock anyway.

I am open to ideas as to what I might use and where I might get it!
Thanks in advance!

Scott

You may try McMaster Carr.
You can also try to use a tightly wound spring where you smash the ends into a square. Be aware that you want the spring to TIGHTEN in the correct direction.
You can anneal the two ends (ONLY) and deform them into a square shape.

Cheers Again!

So, you're looking for a short section of speedo/tach cable?

Found one of the cables on Ebay but I think it is for the trip reset cable (you don't need?). Looks close but I have no idea.

69 Camaro had a speed minder option and the repro cable is available for about $30. Classic Industries has a picture I can't copy and post. . Might be worth a look there.

Ebay item below

McMaster-Carr is quite a sight! I'll definitely find something there one day!

I have a trip reset. I'll look and see if it can be modified. I'll also look at other cars cables! Good idea!]

You may want to contact some of the Corvette Salvage dealers, they may have the oem part you need. Use Google and you should come up with a few dealers.

I also have a 69 with speed warning . Here are some pics of what the cable looks like when installed . Cable on the right is for speed warning . Maybe this will help you to come up with an idea on how to make one up , if you cant find one .

The black sleeve , on cable , slides up and down and not attached at either end .
