I know, I know... "There are a million other threads out there for this." But many of those have no pictures anymore, or are otherwise broken.
So I'm tearing down my rear trailing arm to change out my wheel bearings. I've got the hub disconnected the the axle on the back and all four bolts under the parking brake removed. Main question is do I have to take off the whole trailing arm system or can I just pull the hub and spindle out with a slide hammer? Also, my parking brake bracket on the backing plate won't come loose yet, has that got to come off before I start?
Thanks.
IF the bolt that holds the trailing arm in place is too rusty to be removed without sawing the nut off the bolt, you can leave the trailing arm in place.
Make sure the car is supported well.
I may be wrong, but I think everything has to be removed from the TA.
It can be a battle removing the bearing support/assembly because of rust.
Take your time.
So I can leave the arm installed on the car, good to know. Any idea what the best method for taking off the hub with the arm attached would be?
I have to ask, do you have all the special tools that are required to replace the TA bearings? If not you're heading down a one way road and it's ugly at the end.
