Default 1969 427

Last Sunday my good friend picked up an incredible piece of Chevrolet history. Tucked neatly under the deceased owners workbench, a completely original L-72 from a Caprice. When I say complete, and original, I mean from carb to pan, water pump to 621 bellhousing. (I have questions about the water pump, but that's just me lol) Still has the fuel pump attached. Every date on every part we can see, without disassembly, is correct. The 163 intake is uncut. The 499 distributor, 8" damper, timing cover, everything correct. The widow claims the engine has never been apart and her husband stored it correctly filling it with oil in the early 80's. One exhaust manifold is broken, but he had a replacement bought for it and came with the engine, also correctly dated. It is for sale. I know a couple heavyweights in our hobby have offered him $6,500 for it, but he is determined to fetch $7,000. I'd buy it, but the water pump pulley is missing They're still out there...

LD suffix.

This original carb isn't as bad as it looks in the pic. Was in a cabinet above his bench.

I agree. I was surprised he turned down the first 2 offers, but he hasn't really advertised it yet. For me, it was just cool to see, and track down all the numbers..yeah, it's a sickness lol.

seen them go for that locally on Marketplace. Someone will pay it. THe blocks alone list for $2-3K on ebay. I had seen a local 427 listed for $1800 with a broken crank and it was just a 427, not a complete numbers matching motor like this, it sold fast. I dont need the numbers so a 454 block with a 427 rotating assembly is good enough for me
