Default Trim tag code

At some point in my Corvette's life it was repainted and while they did a nice job with the new Torch Red paint I knew it wasn't original and they also painted over the trim tag in the door and it made it impossible to read. I finally got around to uncovering the tag and making it shine again and found some interesting items. The car is a '68 and the Trim says 420, paint code 983, build date L09.

I know the 983 color was British Green and the build date July 9, 1968 but I cant recognize the 420 code. Any help.

I kind of overdosed on red Corvettes about 30 years ago. For a while there it seemed no matter what color they were when new, everyone was painting them red (there's even a book about it).
There was a joke floating around the forum here a few years back about the "one off' 1977 Corvette painted in Code 41
Chartreuse. Seems nobody really knows where that car is today and one of our members
said "That is probably because it's now painted Red!"
If you ever decide to repaint your '68, that combo of British Green on Saddle is a real classic, brother!

Interesting, is it a late ‘68 as that is a ‘69 trim code.
