Hi all,
Does anyone know of a good manufacturer of mud/splash shields for behind the tires? Nothing that sticks out too far, but will protect the paint? Mine is just about ready to get back on the road, and don't want to ruin the paint too soon!
Or am I on my own for finding a set?
i have a set of clear plastic "mud / splash" guards that i use sometimes on my '72.
they are held on by small metal spring clips to the inner fiberglass lip
when clean they are hardly noticeable
I fab'd my own and wanted them as inobtrusive as possible. Pushed aluminum through some rollers to get the curve right and then epoxied some Kevlar on the back. You almost can't even notice them and they've protected my paint. I know of no one who makes anything that doesn't look like a "keep on trucking" mudflap.
Back in the day there was a product called 'NIP-CHIPS'...clear polycarbonate splash shields. They clipped on to the fender lips.
The cool thing about them is that they were nigh-on invisible.
" If I wanted my C-3 to look like a truck...I would have bought a truck...." (I have one anyway!).
A further thought, look for a product called "Cleartastic". Something like that anyway. I have some on the leading edge of my rear fender well where gravel can still get to. Seller had some cut to shape for various areas on our cars. I also have that in my inner door jam where the seat belt buckle can do some damage.
If you painted them body color they might "blend in" better
But seriously, a variation of what ignatz did might be the best solution, I'd stay away from any clear rubber as it usually turns yellow pretty quick.
The cleartastic shields work just in front of the rear wheels, a lot of new cars have patches of clear in those same areas. There was a temporary version that sort of static clinged on and you could remove
