I'm currently repainting my 79 and I ran into an issue using the duplicolor paint shop products. I did 3 coats primer, 3 coats base, 2 coats clear with pearl, and 1 coat clear. The paint looks great but it is rather soft even after leaving it out in the sun for 3 days. if I press a fingernail into it there will be a mark on it. This is my first time using the dupli color lacquer paint and I didn't use any additives when applying it.

It's probably dry but not cured, big difference. That can take one to two weeks.
@Jon Hekking Is there any way to shorten this time? I know you can have a paint shop bake it to quicken the cure but i imagine it would be a few hundred bucks.

heat..180f..(verify with them they are VERY responsive) but honestly..it will take 30-90 days to fully cure..
what color did you choose? any pics !!
that product is basically the only lacquer paint available in quantity and reasonable cost.. the only downside is they do not color match..as you can use the base coat without clear and duplicate the oem system..
that's a lot of solvent in there..

@interpon I am going with a jet black base with dark red pearl nightshade. It looks like a burgundy maroon in the sunlight but a black in the shadows. I haven't painted the whole car yet though I did the two t top panels so I could test out two different pearls and I decided on the dark red instead of the teal nightshade

If it's particularly cool or humid that can retard the curing process. The issues with lacquer on Corvettes is the greater expansion/contraction of fiberglass doesn't bode real well for longevity. Lacquer is rather brittle, doesn't flex well. But there's a certain nice shine to it that is appealing.
