I'm really not certain what you think you can find out about a car this old from the Vin. About all the information in the Vin would be year - 68, Engine, and the sequential number. which may give you an idea of when in the 68 model year run yours was built. You can check out the Corvette Registry and see if it's ever been listed and that can also help with when it was built. not much more you can do with just a Vin.
Much more info on the trim tag. But if your looking for even more. finding the build sheet is the ultimate answer.

The only information you can get from the VIN is:
1 = Chevrolet, 9 = Corvette, 4 = V8 engine, 37 = coupe (67 = convertible), 8 = 1968, S = St. Louis plant, 4 = ? (a serial # prefix that changed for various years), 17740 = the sequence number of the car in the model year (rolling off the assembly line after car #17,739 and before car #17,741). One more thing is that you can estimate the build date as May 1, 1968 from the serial number ranges for each month of production.

It's not the best designed website around, but you may be interested in: https://www.c3registry.com/index.php?job=Home

Other than this, Chevrolet records are non-existent unless your car was shipped to Canada or was made later in the C3 era.

Build date May 1, 1968. But You can find that on the trim tag. That's about all one can get from a VIN on an old C3.

if your concerned about Legit , check to see if the engine number matches the vin. lots of numbers on lots of parts can be checked. Bottom line, if it's priced as a driver, who cares?

Lots of decoders at this site:

Do you have the trim tag and/or engine stamp codes?
