I'm really not certain what you think you can find out about a car this old from the Vin. About all the information in the Vin would be year - 68, Engine, and the sequential number. which may give you an idea of when in the 68 model year run yours was built. You can check out the Corvette Registry and see if it's ever been listed and that can also help with when it was built. not much more you can do with just a Vin.
Much more info on the trim tag. But if your looking for even more. finding the build sheet is the ultimate answer.

Hello
I'm considering buying a 68 C3 coupe. Can someone decode this vin # and tell me
what it is? 194378S417740
I appreciate any help
Thanks
Dan
The only information you can get from the VIN is:
1 = Chevrolet, 9 = Corvette, 4 = V8 engine, 37 = coupe (67 = convertible), 8 = 1968, S = St. Louis plant, 4 = ? (a serial # prefix that changed for various years), 17740 = the sequence number of the car in the model year (rolling off the assembly line after car #17,739 and before car #17,741). One more thing is that you can estimate the build date as May 1, 1968 from the serial number ranges for each month of production.
Just for fun I looked at the registry. Silver / black Vinyl int. 427 390 HP. power windows, air-con. registered in the registry in 2013 by a car dealer called " California Cars". listed as a nice driver

That describes the car but I guess theres no way to confirm anything is legit with out the build sheet. Thanks for the help guys.
if your concerned about Legit , check to see if the engine number matches the vin. lots of numbers on lots of parts can be checked. Bottom line, if it's priced as a driver, who cares?
