Default Rear harness questions

Hi all,
(Hopefully!) soon I will be getting my car back in MY garage after several months in paint/body shop (thanks COVID ) and while preparing, I have a new rear harness to go in.
Has anyone replaced theirs? How hard, and any hints or tips?
Where is the beginning of the harness, and where does it exit inside to outside the body?

Just getting prepared!
Thanks!

Paul

If I remember right, the rear harness on my 71 went under the driver door sill, dropping off a couple wires for the door ajar switch, rear cargo light, then over the left rear wheel well, and through a grommet in the left rear corner of the luggage compartment to the outside.
If you don`t already have one, get the laminated, color coded wiring charts with pictures of all the connectors, components, and locations.... well worth it!

The connection to the dash harness is behind the driver kick panel. I don’t recall if the new harness comes with the luggage compartment grommet or not, but get a new one as the old is almost always hard and brittle. Removing the spare tire carrier makes the job significantly easier. You also may find removing the mufflers is required. If your interior is stripped, this is a much easier job.

So, pushing the harness from inside luggage area thru to rear will be required? (I'll need to check if this harness comes with new grommet. If not, thanks for the good idea! )

The spare tire carrier has been removed, and I have sidepipes, so no muffs!
Interior is almost stripped (previous owner) so there's that too. It's been so long since I've seen/worked on the car interior, I've lost track of where everything is!

Thanks for the info all!

Here are the AIM pages for the 1972 rear wiring harness. Gotta be pretty similar to yours.
