Reality check here. Went this am to see if I could trade my 79 L49, silver/red 85K mile (NICE) at a Dodge dealership for a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country. Yea I know but I already have a 65 GTO and need a car I can use at the beach. I'm old and not searching (too hard) for a date. I would have been happy to trade title for title for the van, 10,095.
But, alas, the salesman, after the used car mgr. looked at my car, said he would not insult me with the offer. WTF? I've had the car for 6 years and have WAY more than the 11 grand they want for the van. Does this surprise anyone?
no.
honestly your car is very nice.. by the time you look at that sales guy again you can get cash for your ride in short order and probably pay for a few tanks of gas in the van you want..
Offer it for trade on this Forum, or Facebook, or even Craigslist. The dealer would still have to sell your car for a profit isn't going to pay more than low wholesale price, so probably $5K or so, which is why they didn't want to insult you. Dealers make money on sales, and financing.
A 79 Vette is a classic. A regular car dealership is not equipped to sell it. It would consume too much time and effort and is not worth it to them. Ike
Just sell it private party. You have a very nice clean car and should have no problem selling it in the current market. Spring is here and people want to buy toys to get some relief from all the covid BS.
Once you sell it then you can shop private party for your mini van (Yuck! j/k, I'm sure you have your reasons for wanting one). You will save a ton of money this way.
Manager probably drives a battery powered electric motor garbage go-cart anyway. Can’t tell a fine ride when he sees one.
Sir, your car is magnificent!
I already have three, or I would drop a load of cash at your doorstep for that gem.
Don’t give it away.
Remember you are dealing with a car salesman........otherwise defined as a con man. Somewhere near the same category as a lawyer.....and not in the positive way. These guys have one goal in mind and that is to give you as little as possible for the car, and one hour later will try to sell it to someone claiming its "rare".
