The old paints were bad for you... the catalyzed clears primers and even some base with isocyanates will harden in your lungs and literally reduce the capacity of your lungs to exchange oxygen.

actually the ‘old’ paints like lacquer were far less risk to health than the crosslinked modern coatings. The high voc (and associated smell from evaporation is why it seems worse. The 2k’s also allow for harder, faster, more flexible coating with, the down side? The above mentioned andshort pot life and re-pairing ease of a laquer.
