Default T-Top Question

My '79 came with glass T-Tops which I don't like so traded for fiberglass tops from a '78 but they don't fit correctly. The tabs that slide into the center post are spaced too close to the top so they don't slide into the slots. Looks like there needs to be a spacer to move them down a 1/4 to 1/2 inch. I could fab up a spacer plate or maybe just use washers but the studs may not be long enough. Anyone know what's going on here? Are '78 tops not compatible with '79s? I can't compare them to my glass tops because the guy I traded with is about 500 miles away!

They do sell shims you could see haw many it takes and if you have sufficient threads left to secure the nuts.

I got mine from Melrose T-Tops but you probably already have them ordered, among other t-top repair items.

PS: 78 and 79 tops should be interchangeable.

I removed the tabs and the tops fit perfectly. Don't want to try driving like that though as I'm afraid they might fly off.

Melrose was $5 a set cheaper so just ordered from them. Thanks!

Chili these are notorious for flying away, very costly and dangerous for someone driving behind you. Be certain that they are held in firmly!!! Ike

Will duct tape hold them in place?

Yeah, won't be driving until I get the shims in and they are completely secured although I might take the car out this weekend with the tops off.
