I own a 1982 Collector's edition corvette, and I've tried everything to get the rear window open. I also brought to the local auto dealers service department, but they couldn't get it open either. It used to work, the window release is hooked up, and I've tightened it as much as possible, but it still won't open.
Okay as the local expert on hatches...and having written about this BEFORE... (use the search button #$%^&!)
Locate the black hinge's
Look underneath them....you will see one allen head per hinge.
These attach to the 'buttons' that secure the hatch.,
remove the allens.
CAREFULLY lift up the leading edge of the glass.
NOW you can gently push the glass forward about a 1/2 inch.
Now you can release the latches if the cable is still functioning.
Re-adjust the rear latches all the way backwards and
remove the fiberglass cover under the window and readjust and tighten the cables.
