Default Leave Off T-Top Trim

I was planning to redo the metal trim on the edges of my '77s t-tops black but took them off recently as I prep for body work and paint and like the way it looks without the trim there even more. Has anybody kept this trim off without issue? The trim along the window looks like I can just reattach the weatherstrip retainer portion but the front I would need to attach the weatherstrip directly to the t-tops. If this idea definitely doesn't work, is it possible to fit the later model trim that was already black to a '77 top or are they too different?

Yes I did leave the stainless trim off some 77 Tops when I had the car painted . When you take the front section off you will see the panel is molded to fit the trim ,so I added some glass and sanded it back smooth . I also added some glass along the bottom of the sides of each top to get rid of the ultra "sharp edge " that is normally covered by the side trim part . That way I could round it a bit so the paint didn,t have to hold onto a super sharp edge.

That looks great @bazza77! I have a set for my 80 that came with the chrome trim. I need to paint the tops black (white car) while my glass tops stay safe at home. It looks like I can just toss the chrome trim.

Those look fantastic, this is exactly what I was hoping for. Have you had any issues with them not sealing as well with the trim off? Any pics with them on the car?
