I am in the process of lifting the body of my 72 Convertible. I had to grind the bolt heads off from both #4 mounts and #3 mount on the driver side. While I was working on the #3 mount a foam block fell down from inside the access compartment. Never seen it before or seen it referenced anywhere. Passenger side also has one. What is it for? Any replacements available? Curious on this as I have found other foam pieces on the frame, which are the only locations where I have any real rust issues.
Ah yes, the "texas" shaped one, the one that falls down is about the size of a deck of cards. I believe they were meant to be sort of a sound deadener since that cavity goes right down to the frame

The purpose of the Texas shaped soft foam was for sound deadening and to help stabilize the B-pillar trim It was also shaped to fit the left or right side. In coupes there was a white Styrofoam block that was behind the rear corner carpet left and right. To help maintain the shape of the rear bulkhead carpet.

I have both in my 70' Coupe the Texas shape is a grey dense foam just behind the seat in the pillar (B) for noise (in front of the rear wheel well) is the best guess as it does not relate to the carpet, the white is styrofoam that mounts in each corner of the rear panel/bulkhead to maintain the carpet in the corner. Both are rare birds these days :-)

That's what I get when typing way to fast and the brain is behind. Fixed it the way I wanted to say it.
These are not inside the car. I found these in the compartment where the #3 body mount bolt is. It is about the size of a deck of cards as Moser stated. Can't believe they provide much in the way of deadening. My convertible, when I removed the original carpet, had nothing inside behind the seat pillar.

In the pic posted by PJO , the "texas shaped piece " goes inside the green painted B pillar . what happens over the years is they work there way down to the bottom , where the no.3 mounts are.
I didn't realise they are rare , i have a set floating around here from a parts car !
