If you mean the generic short augers, how are you going to prevent them from spinning in the pipe?
They have maybe 4 blades at most, look at the number of blades on the STS and they are still pretty loud. https://www.spiralturbobaffles.com/c...e-application/
YMMV, but the OD of the muffler exactly matched the OD of my 4" sidepipes, so there was no way of fitting them inside as inserts. I may experiment further and use them to weld up a sidepipe extension that replaces the 4" tube.
If you can find mufflers that fit inside the 4" pipe, please let us know!
I bought a set of STS inserts for my 79 with Hooker side pipes with 2.5 inserts( the loudest one they make). I really didn't like the sound compared to the Hooker inserts. In my opinion they sounded too "truck like". I took them out and reinstalled the Hookers.
I used the speedway augers in a 2" header tube 3" collecter system and 3" mandrel bent x-pipe dumping in front of the differential . In my drag car in my avatar. They were junk lost 4 tenths and 5 mph in the 1/8 mile. Pull them out and it was like a different car. With hundreds of passes logged for bracket racing, engine was 454 shiffting about 6250 rpm. By the time, I made the 3rd run they were pulled out, and trash canned. I really thought they would work, just had the before and after data to prove me wrong. It was quieter with them, if you are space challenged , if you don't mind the power loss. Ron B.
Here is what I did. The first photo is the auger as I received it. I cut the end off and welded on a nipple with a pipe plug that I can reach in and unscrew.
I would think the 'auger' type inserts would have quite a lot of back pressure. The STS baffles are a spiral/auger type also but have cuts, or breaks in the spiral which I would think would flow a lot better. I had the STS baffles and they were nice but loud. Sort of raspy.
