Default Do your seat backs sit straight?

‘73 Coupe.

When looking into the car from the front my seat backs look kind of “wonky.” I’ve got new seat back bumpers and have adjusted them several times. The seat backs appear to be straight-ish when viewed from inside the car. But when viewed from the front it’s like they’re mounted with one side higher/lower than the other on each seat.

Is this just a regular C3 “feature” that I should ignore or is something askew with my seat frames?

Yes, same issue with my original seats, I bought new rubber seat bumper adjustors but not the bottom screws. Can't seem to get them aligned without the adjustors being too loose or too far that the back does not lock. Mines a driver so I have given up on perfection!

Okay. At least I know it’s not just me. Thank you. Mine’s a driver also and it had newer seat covers on it when I bought it back in ‘04. The seat foam needs replacing and maybe I can do some work on the seat frames whenever I get around to replacing the foam. It just bugs me that they sit so weird.

You can shim/put a spacer between the floorboard and the bottom of the seat-slider to level the "lean-problem".

Yeah…. That’s probably where I’ll end up. I put Corbeau seats in a couple of other cars and I’ve considered that option here. But as I get older I’m starting to lean (no pun intended) more towards keeping things more stock looking.

I won't tell anyone that you shimmed the sliders....
just "lean" (no pun intended) so no one will suspect anything.

a common problem is the seat frame on the bottom gets bent or cracked.
Many times a lot of force is put on adjuster the mounting area when you get outta the can and push yourself outta the low car. they make an aftermarket repair/reinformcent plate.

I had just about the same issue...seat was crooked and it rocked back and forth. Once I got the seats out and pulled the carpet out I found the the rivets holding the bracket on the bulkhead fastened to the tunnel were broken (blue circle) and the tunnel was sagging by an inch....wait....more bad news!....the floor in the area of the right rear drivers seat track was all cracked and broken (red circle)....wait more bad news! The lower seat frame was broken and cracked. I re-fastened the bracket using small bolts and washers. Fiberglassed the floor area and re-enforced the seat frame by welding on a 3/16 thick plate (as described by NONN37). Not a difficult fix.

Thanks for that video. I suspected that the seat structure may have failed. Now I’m convinced that it probably has. Since I plan on new foam anyway it should be pretty easy to weld up and reinforce whatever has gone wrong down there.

Is that a later metal floor or the early fiberglass floor? I’ve had my carpet out but it’s been so long ago and I don’t remember any rivets.

The seats are mounted slightly pointing outward not straight forward making the backs looking like you described. Look thru the back window and youll see the same

This is on a 71, all fiberglass. A 73 is the same.

Now Derek....his arms and legs wouldn't be long enough to drive it safely.
